As a matter of fact, many hatchbacks of today still haven't cought up with the Golf IV qualitywise. My own Golf IV has the 1.6 liter petrol engine with 101 HP. I had the 90 HP TDI version before that, too (I sold it for 5000 Euros with 198.000 km on the odometer!). This current one is now 10 years old and has mostly been moved in and around
White smoke is oil burning, black is fuel. There are a dozen things that could cause the symptoms you describe. Faulty fuel pump, dirty injectors, ignition system fault, cracked cylinder head, bad fuel, faulty engine sensor (MAP, OXY) etc. Really need to find a mechanic who can look at it in person. MK4 1.6 SR AKL Help Needed. Pleqase guys i need some advise. anybody have the correct Vacuum diagram for the vehicle? I need to know where the vqacuum pipe for the throttle body goes to. Also on the back of the intake on top by the throttle body there is suppose to be like a pressure relieve plug that controls the Pressure in the intake.
Check that the fuel pressure is maintained at the value indicated in Step 8, for approximately 5 minutes. Relieve the fuel pressure. Remove the fuel pressure gauge and reconnect the high pressure hose, using a new O-ring. Start the engine and check for leaks.

what ever you do people do not buy the 1.4 1.6 mk4 golf, skoda fabia ,skoda octivia ,1.4, seats they all have gear box problem. when the gear boxes have been either hard driven or reached a high mileage they tend to fail estimated failure mileage is around 96K .. so do your self a favour get ur self a TDI or GTI since they are better built gear boxes but defo sure the mk4 golf tdi are reliable
3. The most common way to test the 5 wire VW Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is just to unplug it with the engine running. If the MAF is bad (either because it's not producing a signal or producing an erratic one), the car's idle will return to normal and the car will seem to run fine. But, if you're like me, you want a more solid test, something

It sounds like a short or a bad ground maybe even a bad Ignition switch. It's weird it knocks out your clock almost like you disconnected the battery.
Nah, its a 1.6 16V MKIV, don't think FSi cam ein those cars. And I'm preety sure that the 1.6 16V engine in the MKIV is not deisgned to run on specifcally 98 RON fuel, unlike S3 / R32 would be. 95ROZ is 98RON, IMO. Therefore, if its designed to run on 98ROZ that must be like 101RON or soemthing which is daft.
